On the Fringe: Alternative Photographic Processes
June 29 – July 3, 2009
Morning, 9:00 am – 12:00 pm
Recommended for ages 8 – 11 or grades 3 – 5
In this camp, students will learn how to create alternative types of photographs like sunprints or Vandyke prints. Students will actively be involved in the process of mixing chemicals, coating paper, exposing it to light. Students will also photographically explore Balboa Park and alter their photographs using hand painting techniques.

Discovering the Digital Perspective
July 6 – 10, 2009
Morning, 9:00 am – 12:00 pm
Recommended for ages 11 – 14 or grades 6 – 8
Students will explore the beautiful surroundings of Balboa Park with digital cameras while learning tips and techniques to make successful pictures. After making a variety of images using the elements of design and vantage points, students will manipulate images in Photoshop and create something out of this world!

Slideshow Mania
July 13 – 17, 2009
Morning 9:00 am – 12:00 pm
Recommended for ages 11 – 14 or grades 6 – 8
Have you ever wanted to make your photographs into a dvd slideshow? In this one week camp students will learn how to take more interesting photographs while photographing throughout Balboa Park. We will then return to our classroom to create and edit slideshows using credits, music, and the photographs taken during camp. Students will leave with a dvd copy of their slideshow.

Point, Shoot, and Fun!
July 13 – 17, 2009
Afternoon, 1:00 – 4:00 pm
Recommended for ages 6 – 8 or grades 1 – 2
This camp is geared towards younger children with little or no experience with photography. Students will be introduced to a variety of photographic activities including digital photography, photo collage, and alternative techniques. The camp will visit exciting and picturesque locations throughout Balboa Park including the San Diego Zoo, the canyons, ponds, and other natural attractions.

Lighting Revealed: The Rays and Watts of Photography
July 27 – 31, 2009
Morning, 9:00 am – 12:00 pm
Recommended for ages 14 – 18 or grades 9 – 12
In this camp, students will learn the importance of light in the creation of a photograph and how to manipulate it. Using natural, ambient, and studio lighting, students will coordinate several photo shoots over the course of the week, culminating in a group discussion and exhibition.

Film...What’s that?
August 3 – 7, 2009
Morning, 9:00 am – 12:00 pm
Recommended for ages 14 -18 or grades 9 – 12
Experiment with different types of film cameras in this high school camp. Students will work with 35 mm film cameras and medium format toy cameras to take creative and artistic photographs. The class will feature instruction in composition, exposure techniques, and daily shooting assignments. Students are encouraged to bring their own 35 mm SLR (single lens reflex) camera.
